French authorities will start stopping migrant vessels in English Channel following British demands

France has agreed to start stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, following months of pressure from the UK.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the French leader asking him to support the plan and stating there currently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French security forces will be allowed to intercept the small boats at sea, but only before they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative statements.

French authorities have infrequently acted to stop the heavily loaded boats departing from the shoreline because it is considered excessively high a risk to both officers and civilians.

"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this period... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel."

Currently, a French maritime police representative states officers will begin taking action at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Notably, the official excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been suggested as a potential method to disable the engines of the vessels.

This determination to take action at all is a significant advancement, following a brief shift towards a stricter strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous Interior Minister departed from office.

That was highlighted in July, preceding a meeting between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed wading into the sea to slash the sides of a vessel.

Now French authorities will once more be permitted to intercept boats before they pick up migrant passengers from the beaches of northern France, although it's uncertain how the small boats will be prevented.

Strong winds are presently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the people-smuggling gangs will be looking for methods to adjust to evade detection, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for comment.
